Missouri governor spends the holiday at home in Bolivar

BOLIVAR, Mo. Missouri Governor Mike Parson spent Independence Day in his hometown of Bolivar.

Governor Parson held a meet and greet at Southwest Baptist University, taking selfies with people in the community.

The Parson family then joined the rest of the town, celebrating with live music, carnival-style food and of course a fireworks show.

The governor tells us it's good to be home.

"I'm just honored and humbled to be here where I grew up. I worked with these people and went to the grocery store with them, went to church with them. Just to come back home on the 4th of July, it's a special day for me and my family. I'm just so proud to come from here. To be the governor of the state of Missouri," he said.

This was the 38th year the Bolivar Rotary Club has held this event.
