PARADE UPDATE: Several high school marching bands pull out of Saturday's downtown Springfield Christmas parade

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Downtown Springfield Association will host its annual Christmas Parade Saturday.

And it appears no snow shovel is needed. But the cold is forcing several high school marching bands to cancel their performances in the parade. The cancellations include Springfield Public Schools.

The theme this year is "Wonders of Christmas." From polar bears in festive scarfs, ice skating penguins or a walrus sipping hot cocoa, this theme aims to deck downtown with everyone’s favorite holiday woodland creatures. It also honors Springfield's Wonders of Wildlife.

The parade each year draws around 10,000. The parade starts at 2 p.m. Check out the map above for the route.
