LAKE OZARK, Mo. - Both eastbound and westbound U.S. 54 between Missouri 242 and Route W in Miller County Road were closed for a few hours on Tuesday at midday after a highway crew found a suspicious package on or next to the highway. The package turned out to be harmless.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says the closure lasted about three hours. Traffic was detoured across Bagnell Dam on Route 242 and Business Route 54.
The package was along U.S. 54 near the entrance to Osage National Golf Course, about a half-mile north of the Osage River bridge downstream from Bagnell Dam. A bomb squad from Jefferson City examined the package.
