Thursday morning storms damage home, trees near Walnut Grove, Mo.

NEAR WALNUT GROVE, Mo. -- The National Weather Service surveyed damage around the Walnut Grove, Mo. area. The storms hit around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Roger and Christa Clawson say they were in bed when the storm struck. They say it was very loud and was here and gone very quickly. They found major damage. They lost several large pine trees standing about 50-foot tall, plus some other smaller trees across the yard. The storm also damaged a camper that fits in a pickup bed that was sitting back behind their shed. They say that camper weighs about a ton and the storm picked it up and turned it over. The storm also destroyed the roof that was over the camper. They also report some roof damage on their house.

"I was laying in bed, and the lights came on real quick, and then I heard what sounded like a jet engine roaring, and it was just like it was there and then in a matter of a few seconds, it was gone," said Clawson.

The National Weather Service surveyed the damage Thursday.
