NIXA, Mo. - Police in Nixa, Mo. area investigating the death of a woman as suspicious.

Officers found the woman dead in a home in the 900 block of South Timber Ridge around 10 p.m. Thursday. Police say someone called 911 and asked police to check on the well-being of someone at the home. Police say a person of interest returned to the home during the investigation. Investigators say that person was arrested.

Neighbors say a man, woman and a couple of kids lived in the house.

"Just terribly sad. Even though I don't know everybody in the neighborhood, I know many faces between fundraising for school events and such," said Johanna ZumMallen.

Investigators have not said how the woman died and have not released any names. But according to court records, a man who lives at the home was charged with domestic assault in April, and again July 8th.

"There had been a post about some possible activity on the street," says ZumMallen.

That same man was booked into the the Christian County jail early Friday morning, but is not charged.

Police say they have no reason to believe the public is in any danger. The investigation is ongoing.
