SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Senior Age Area Agency on Aging kicked off its "beat the heat" fan drive in Springfield Tuesday.
The agency's marketing director said the fans will be distributed to seniors across 17 counties.
"We just want a little relief for our seniors this summer." marketing director Juli Jordan said. "It gets really hot, as we all know, and [we're] just providing a little relief for them with a box fan."
Jordan says the box fans won't just help with the heat.
"Sometimes our seniors have to choose between paying an electric bill, or choosing their medication and maybe even eating," she said. "This is just some small way we can give back and maybe provide them a little bit of relief this summer."
The event is in conjunction with KWFC and "The Wind." Jordan said there are five more fan drive events around the agency's coverage area.
"They can go to the Republic Senior Center this Thursday and then next Tuesday we have one in Ozark," she said.
Jordan said future fan drop off events will be posted on the agency's Facebook page.
She said the agency will accept new and used fans in great condition. The agency did a similar box fan drive two years ago and brought in close to 300 fans.
