Springfield inmates to head to Joplin

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Springfield city inmates may soon be heading west, to Joplin.

Solutions for the overcrowded Greene County Jail have come up short. The city thought it solved the problem by farming prisoners out to other counties. Some of those deals have broken down.

Now city council will consider an emergency ordinance Monday. They could agree to pay $100,000 to send inmates to the Joplin City Jail.

The city has not said where the money would come from.

Police Chief Paul Williams is declining comment until after the council meeting on Monday.
