Springfield City Utilities board selects next general manager

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release)-- The Board of Public Utilities announced that Gary Gibson as Springfield City Utilities next general manager.

He currently serves as the associate general manger for customer operations and communications at CU. Gibson is expected to begin his new duties mid-December following the previously announced retirement of current General Manager Scott Miller.

“Gary has a strong technical background in electric, natural gas, water, and broadband areas,” said Joe Reynolds, Board of Public Utilities Chair. “Coupled with his passion for customer service, community and national engagement, and his vision for the future of the utility, made him the unanimous choice of the committee.”

Gibson has served City Utilities for 28 years.

“The employees of City Utilities have built a reputation and led CU to being one of the top municipal utilities in the country,” said Gary Gibson. “I am excited and humbled to lead this group of people dedicated to serving our community. I plan to build on the solid foundation with an eye to engage with our customers and provide additional value to our community.”

The search committee utilized the services of Mycoff Fry Partners, LLC recruiters. The search committee received more than 20 qualified applications for the position. The position has a compensation plan with the following:
• Annual salary of $308,000 with benefits consistent with all non-union employees with two exceptions.
o The GM has an employment contract that is one year in length and is annually reviewed and evaluated by the Board of Public Utilities.
o The GM receives a vehicle allowance.
