Sore muscles? You don't have to spend a lot to get relief

On today’s Fit Life, we looked at 3 recovery tools at Academy Sports that are beneficial to anyone who works out on a regular basis.

All 3 can be inexpensive (starting under $20), and keep the fitness enthusiast prepared for any muscle flareups that might occur during or after workouts. Using these recovery tools can help speed up the healing process from day to day training.

The first recovery tool I recommend is the foam roller. It's a lightweight, cylindrical tube of compressed foam. This is a great tool to use for the stiffness, inflammation and tightness that sometimes occurs during training and running. Foam rollers come in different sizes and degrees of firmness, so choose one that best suits your needs.

The second recovery tool I recommend is a molded ice pack that you fill with water and keep in the freezer. Cryotherapy is also known as cold therapy. It's great for decreasing muscle inflammation and irritations brought on by workouts. The ice pack will calm down irritated muscles and mold to the shape of the muscle you want to ice.

The last recovery tool I recommend is a massage ball. Massage balls are great for deep and targeted muscle relief and can reach those hard to reach muscles in your back and shoulders. Massage balls come in different sizes and are easy to store in your workout bag.

Everyone who works out on a consistent basis will sometimes have minor muscle flare ups. The use of these recovery tools can help to alleviate minor muscle issues and injuries down the road from overuse. Their use has the same effect on your muscles as going to a massage therapist, but at a fraction of the cost. Consider using these recovery tools as part of your path to a healthier lifestyle.
