SCAM WARNING: Springfield's City Utilities warns you to hang up on this caller

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield's City Utilities warns of a potential new scam.

Someone posing as a CU employee may call you and tell you they are going to change out your electric meter. They'll tell you you owe so much money and that, if you don't pay it, you won't have electricity after the meter is changed.

The scammer gave the phone number 241-6289 to make the payment. If you receive a call like this, it is not from City Utilities. CU does not require any form of payment when we change electric meters.

If you receive a call and are unsure about its authenticity, you can send CU a direct message or call customer service at (417) 863-9000.
