Republic Gas line break forces schools to evacuate

REPUBLIC, Mo. Two Republic elementary schools are evacuated after a utility crew hit a gas line.

Republic School District Administration says the break is forcing them to evacuate McCulloch and Schofield Elementary Schools. Schofield students are relocating to Price, and McCulloch students are relocating to Sweeny (by bus).

A spokesperson says a crew was digging near Pine Avenue to install a fiber optic line, when they hit the gas line. They say, the ground was not marked correctly. People in the area say it smells strongly of natural gas.

Emergency crews are evaluating the risk, and working to fix the problem. They ask you try to avoid the area.
