Nixa welcomes public to open house for site of first library

NIXA, Mo. -- The city of Nixa is getting a new library. An open house on the future of the library will take place Saturday.

Believe It or Not, Nixa has never had a public library. But that is about to change, and this is the future location. You are invited to come and check out this new location and their future plans. They are about to hire a contractor to do renovations to this former bank operations center. The library will occupy about two-thirds of the building, a 9,000 square foot space, and the library is in a lease purchase agreement with Southern Bank.

The Christian County Library has always been in Ozark, so people in Nixa have just had to drive there to use the library or pay the non-resident fees to use Greene County Libraries such as Library Center. They also do some pick-up and drop-off services at the Nixa Community Center. But Library staff and Nixa residents are excited about this new branch.

"We are super excited of course," said :Katy Pattinson. "Lots of our staff live in Nixa, grew up in Nixa and it's exciting to imagine a new group of families and kids finally having convenient access to a library where they can come use the computers, come do their homework, come check out materials, take some of the classes and story times and all the stuff we're doing."

The open house is Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the 218 McCroskey Street in Nixa.
