RIDGEDALE, Mo.-- A new camping trend is growing in the Ozarks. If you don't like "roughing it" in the great outdoors, you don't have to anymore. Big Cedar's Camp Long Creek, opened over the Memorial Day weekend. The posh campgrounds are about 10 miles south of Branson in Ridgedale, Missouri.
If you're looking for a quiet couple's escape, you can reserve a glamping tent overlooking Table Rock Lake. It's a perfect spot for a romantic getaway in the middle of nature, but far from your typical outdoor experience. Janet Glaser of Camp Long Creek described it as the best of both worlds. "We like to think it's where camping and comfort meet."
Each glamping tent has a lake view with a private deck high in the treetops. There's a TV, refrigerator, and a private bathroom with a shower. Plus, couples have their own fire pit, outdoor soaking tub and even a s'mores kit for two. Glaser gave us a tour of one. "They look like like a tent, but there's no kind of camping about it. It's really glamorous. We have a king size bed in there, with a chandelier hanging over it, and you're going to have amazing lake views looking out."
Long Creek Marina is just steps away. Visitors can take full advantage of life on Table Rock Lake. You can take a cruise on the boat, "Goin' Jessi." It's an exact replica of the 1934 Chris Craft, named after Waylon Jennings' wife. You can also take the family tubing, or fishing. Just go to Long Creek Marina to rent fishing gear, a pontoon or jet skis.
Families can choose from several cabins at Camp Long Creek. They all come with the comforts of home, like a dining area, a small kitchen and air conditioning. You can bring the dogs too. Camp Long Creek allows 2 dogs per family. There's a $15 nightly fee per dog.
"We also have the one bedroom camp cabins which are family friendly. They have a fireplace in them, they have a refrigerator, a stove and it's just an amazing little getaway for you and the family," said Glaser.
Relax in a rocking chair on your screened in porch, and disconnect from the real world... well, at least part of it. "It's for people who want to camp, but they don't want to give up those modern luxuries," explained Glaser.
Not a lake person? There's an infinity pool with a cabana where you can order food and beverages. Prices for Camp Long Creek cabins and glamping tents start at $174 a night. Some stays will require a minimum of 2 nights.
Campers can also enjoy access to all of Big Cedar's amenities. The property includes 3 pools, a spa and Fun Mountain. You can take the kids for a spin on the race track, hit the ropes course, go bowling or take a shot at laser tag.
Camp Long Creek will be open until the winter season.
