Missouri State University places head women's volleyball coach on administrative leave

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State University placed women’s volleyball head coach Melissa Stokes on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations involving the program.

“We have an obligation to take seriously any concerns raised regarding our programs,” said Director of Athletics Kyle Moats.

Moats says the investigation began immediately after the allegations were reported to the school. He also stated as a personnel matter, no further statements about the situation will be made until findings of the investigation have been completed and reviewed by the university administration.

Melissa Stokes is entering her 24th season as head coach at the school. She has posted a 509-243 record (a .677 winning percentage). Stokes is the Missouri Valley Conference’s all-time winningest coach in league matches with 299 MVC victories. The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inducted her as a member in 2017.

Associate head coach Manolo Concepción will assume the program’s day-to-day duties until the investigation is completed. The firm of Spencer Fane LLP has been hired by the university to conduct the investigation.
