Man drowns in Lake Taneycomo after running from Taney County deputy

HOLLISTER, Mo. -- A man drowned in Lake Taneycomo after trying to escape capture from a Taney County deputy.

According to Taney County Corornor Tony Mullen, the man was Tyler Jones, 26, of Hollister.

The incident started Sunday morning around 3 a.m. A deputy attempted to stop a sport bike motorcycle on U.S. 65 in Hollister, Mo. Jones refused to stop and traveled northbound on East Missouri 76. He then stopped his bike on Lake Shore Drive and took off on foot.

Deputies say Jones then ran down an embankment toward Lake Taneycomo. The deputy stopped his pursuit at the road. A short time later the deputy heard a call for help. Emergency crews with the Western Taney County Water Rescue and Taney County Ambulance responded. The deputy then tried to find Jones, but could not see him. His body was found by the rescue teams about 15 feet from shore.
