Man arrested after deadly crash in Howell County

WEST PLAINS, Mo. - A woman from West Plains died in the hospital Monday morning, after being critically injured in a crash Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Candy Gillam, 49, was thrown from a utility vehicle after it was hit head-on by a car on county road 8530 south of West Plains. Gillam was thrown from the UTV and into a tractor-trailer that was parked in the road for maintenance.

Troopers say the driver of the car that hit the UTV, a 26 year old man from West Plains, was arrested on suspicion of DWI, careless and imprudent driving, and failing to register a motor vehicle.

The driver of the UTV, Rikcky Ledbetter, 49, of West Plains, was seriously injured in the crash.
