FREEZE WARNING: NWS issues freeze warning for much of the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A freeze warning will take effect for much of the Ozarks, Friday night.

The warning begins at 9:00 p.m. Friday night and will remain in effect until 8:00 a.m., Saturday morning.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected.

The warning has been issued for the following counties: Benton, St. Clair, Hickory, Camden, Pulaski, Cedar, Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Texas, Dent, Dade, Greene, Webster, Wright, Newton, Lawrence, Christian, Douglas, Howell, Shannon, Barry, Stone, Tnaey, Ozark, and Oregon.

Crops and other sensitive vegetation are at risk, as well as unprotected outdoor plumbing. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Residents are also encouraged to drain any in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above-ground pipes to prevent them from freezing.
