SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Dickerson Park Zoo is mourning the death of siamang monkey, Lucu.

Lucu died Friday, from an acute bacterial infection.

“He tried very hard to help us help him,” said senior zookeeper Melissa Dickson.

Lucu was one of two siamangs at Dickerson Park Zoo. His mate, Makali, is getting extra enrichment and lots of interaction with her keepers. A siamang pair will stay together for life; so, the Tropical Asia zookeepers are making sure “Kali” is getting a lot of attention at this time.

“Lu was by far the sweetest gibbon we’ve ever had here,” said Dickson. “We will miss him.”
