Contract crew hits line, leading to power outages in south Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield City Utilities reported thousands of outages in south Springfield after a crew hit a line.

At its peak, CU reported up to 5,000 customers without power. The outage area includes the Mercy Hospital Campus. It is also impacting a few traffic lights in the city.

A City Utilities spokesperson says the contract crew damaged the line near Seminole and Kings Friday afternoon. CU says it is a main line. None of the crew suffered injuries.
