Back-to-school bash helps hundreds local children

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSPR) - 200 Springfield children now have new backpacks and supplies, thanks to East Grand Church of Christ.

MacKenzie Snyder is one of those children who received free supplies today. This is her second year accepting help at the Back-to-School Bash and already at ten-years-old she understands how much this helps her family.

"Sometimes it’s hard to buy everything at a store or something because for all four kids in my family it’d be like 200 bucks,” Snyder said. “It helps us so we don’t have to spend our money to keep our house.”

“School is everything. Feeling good about school is everything. So we want to really jump start their school year and make school a happy time and just one last thing they have to worry about. One less thing their parents have to worry about,” stated Back-to-School Bash Director, Ramona Brown.

“It’s hard sometimes,” Snyder said.

She could not wait to show KSPR News crews her new backpack and school supplies Sunday. She said now she can start school with new pencils, dry erase board markers, and other necessities… like her other friends.

This is East Grand Church of Christ’s 12th year hosting the Back-to-School Bash.

If you could not make it to the bash, the director said to call the church office at 417-883-7464 and whatever supplies they have they will be happy to donate.
