A parent's best strategy when it comes to teen vaping

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- On this Live, Life, Well, we're exploring how you can talk to your teens about Juuling.

The FDA Commissioner recently said he's horrified about the rapid rise in teen vaping. It's estimated 3.6 million high school and middle school students now use the nicotine packed e-cigs.

So, what can you do as a parent? We talked with Dr. Jennifer Baker about the best strategies.

Dr. Baker told us, "The first thing is don't freak out. Don't just lose it and go into lecture mode and threaten to punish your child because that's probably not going to work."

The clinical psychologist says instead of yelling, sit down and have a conversation about your concerns. You can set ground rules including, no vaping at home. You can also say, I understand you're doing it, I have concerns about your health and addiction because I like you.

You can also add in social concerns like the impact of vaping on your breath and the smell on your clothes.
