The Springfield Regional Arts Council will host a retrospective exhibition at the Creamery Arts Center of the many works of Pinky Marx who began to paint seriously, “late in life”, in the early 1960s.

An active member of Studio 55 (art group for artist over 55 years of age which meets monthly at the Creamery), Pinky has been working in all mediums including oils, watercolors, acrylics and photography. She began her art career as a student in a class instructed by Randolph Bye at the Springfield Art Museum. Prior to that, at an early age, she worked as a cosmetologist in a prestigious Springfield salon but World War II interrupted that career.

Another instructor at the museum, Robert Johnson, had a great influence on Pinky’s work for he encouraged her to take her easel and brushes outside and to paint what she saw in her garden. When Johnson started a photography class, Pinky jumped right in and chauffeured the photography students all around Missouri and Arkansas while catching many of the shots included in this exhibition.

The Pinky Marx Exhibition will be up January 4 through Jan. 28th. The Creamery Arts Center is located at 411 N. Sherman Parkway across from Hammons Field.
