8:00pm Update
Good Saturday evening and thanks for stopping by the KSPR Weather Blog.
What a Saturday it has been. We appreciate all of you have sent in pictures and snowfall totals to us. I am working to put together a graphic for the newscast tonight to share with all of our viewers. Our forecasts held up and most folks saw the amount of snow we were calling for. There were some areas that saw more than our forecast. We have a report, with picture, from Ruth in Licking, MO of nearly 10 inches!

Also, Jan in Raymondville shared a couple of pictures with us of the 7 inches of snow she saw. (And the steer that wants to come inside until the snow is gone!)

Somewhere near Battelfield and Campbell in Springfield this little "Rascal" decided he wanted to go out and enjoy the snow.

Yes, that is Rascal Carnesi and the picture was taken by his "Mom," Sara. :-)
We have more pictures that we will be showing you through the weekend and into next week. So if you don't see yours here, don't worry, we'll be using them during the newscasts. Also, we'd love to see more, please email them to us, weather@kspr.com.
With clearing skies and a decent snow pack, temperatures will fall in a hurry early Sunday morning. Lows look to fall into the lower to middle teens across the Ozarks. The temperatures also won't rebound much during the day Sunday. Even with abundant sunshine most of us won't make it above 30. Areas that received light snow amounts may make it into the lower 30s.I do have good news for warm weather lovers. Temperatures will warm back into the 40s Monday, then the 50s Tuesday. By Wednesday we are all back into the lower 60s. Not warm enough for you? How about the upper 60s to a few 70 degree readings Thursday and Friday?
A storm system moves our direction Saturday into Sunday, bringing our next chance for rain, possibly a few storms Sunday.
Please, go out and make it a GREAT Sunday!

7:30am Update
Good Saturday morning and thanks for visiting the KSPR Weather Blog!
The snow is falling and falling hard across the Ozarks. It looks like everyone will see at least an inch of snow with a lot of folks receiving 3+ inches. The snow is falling at a rate of an inch per hour or more. The most important thing is this, the snow is sticking everywhere it falls. This means roads will be slick through the day as temperatures remain below freezing. At times this morning it was snowing so hard we could barely see out of our tower camera!

The snow will continue off andon through the day. Tonight skies will clear and temperatures will fall into the teens.
Please share your snow totals and pictures with us! You can tweet them to us @ksprweather, or email, weather@kspr.com.
Please, go out and make it a GREAT Saturday!

Happy Friday and welcome to the KSPR Weather Blog!
Cold and snowy weather moves in tonight across the Ozarks. An upper level storm system will pass through the area bringing in the moisture and lift for the snow. We'll start with a look at the afternoon GFS Bufkit and the amount it shows.

Remember we generally use a 10:1 ratio when converting snow to liquid. The GFS shows 0.177" of liquid falling as snow, so that would equal 1.77 inches of snow in Springfield.
It looks like the heaviest snow will fall in the early to mid-morning hours. The Hi-Res FutureCast is calling for the most snow to fall in the 6-9am time frame.

So how much will you see in your backyard? Typically we will build a special graphic to show you how much we expect across the area. This time, I think the hi-res futurecast has it nailed! So I'm going to show you what the model shows for totals after all is said and done. The clock on the screen shows Sunday because I let the model run the entire way through. By Sunday, we'll be sunny and dry, but still cold.

Remember, these totals aren't exact to how much you'll receive, just how much the Hi-Res FutureCast is calling for. I do think some of those areas from Eminence to Cabool to Lebanon and Camdenton could see a little over 5 inches if the heavy bands develop.
By Sunday the snow will be gone, but the cold will not. Highs will be lucky to make it into the middle 30s. The coldest locations will be where the heaviest snows fall.
By next week much warmer air moves back in and the pattern looks fairly calm through most of the week.
Please, go out and make it a GREAT and SAFE weekend!
