Tornado Watch Until 9 PM

By KSPR Weather

***UPDATED @ 9:00 PM***

Obviously things are very busy right now. Just know that we are reading all of your comments and questions and will try to get to them on the air when we can. Stay safe on this dangerous night!

***UPDATED @ 4:30 PM***

A TORNADO WARNING is in effect for McDonald County. Very large hail up to golfball size hail has been reported with this storm in Southwest City and Noel. Damage from hail has been reported and a tornado is very likely with this storm. Seek shelter if you live in McDonald County. Those to the northeast of McDonald County should keep a close eye on this storm. If you are in this area, send us your reports once whit storm has passed.

----------------------------

Good afternoon everyone. Thunderstorms fired up very quickly to our north and are now pushing into central Missouri. We have already had several tornado warnings to our north. We have received no confirmation of tornadoes, but we did just hear of a report of a funnel cloud to the south of Stover in Morgan County. Take shelter now if you live in central Morgan County. There have also been reports of hail up to the size of quarter with the storms to the north.

The tornado watch has been extended southward to include the areas shaded in red below.

This could be a potentially dangerous situation as the majority of our severe weather may occur overnight tonight when most folks are sleeping. Kevin and I have also been discussing the fact that it is January and a lot of folks do not expect severe weather during this time of the year.

From watching past storm coverage throughout the past few years, generally any of the stations in the area if they are on all night show the shows missed at a later time in the week. So say, for example, another station in town was showing a football game. If they had coverage on tonight like KSPR has, then they would've shown that game at another time. They will probably make an annoucement on KSPR's news tommorrow night as to when those shows will air.

I have to agree with marc on the coverage thing. When it was Springfield 33, I would see the other stations in town break in frequently but sometimes it'd be a hour or more before this station broke in and would usually be when people in the area they were talking about was out of danger. I haven't been in danger tonight but I still am glad to see the coverage on TV. I get both Joplin and Springfield stations but for those who don't it's good to see the incoming storms being talked about.
