Police: Man punished 7-year-old by holding her under scalding water

An Indiana man is behind bars, accused of burning a 7-year-old girl.

An Indiana man is behind bars, accused of burning a 7-year-old girl.

Robert Kendall is charged with battery.

Police said he was watching his friend's daughter on Monday. When she misbehaved, police said he ran hot water in a bath tub and held her in the water.

The girl was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health with second degree burns on both feet.

"They were scalding injuries, they had blistered. The blisters had burst.

“We had a lot of raw skin on the little girl's feet. It was very painful. She couldn't wear shoes… it was, just terrible to look at,” said Captain James Branum.

The girl is now in CPS custody.

Police said her dad was in the next room. They're looking into whether he should also face charges.
