Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the First Christian Missionary Church in the 6100 block of East 38th Street around 2:51 p.m. Thursday.

According to the police report, the pastor, 69-year-old Damon Roach, called police to the scene.  He stated his grandson shot at him while he was inside the church working.  Roach told police he then ran toward the back of the church and exited down a flight of stairs.

SWAT was called to the scene at approximately 3 p.m. after the Griffin barricaded himself inside the church.  After four hours of negotiations, Griffin peacefully surrendered.

IMPD Officer Kendale Adams told Fox59 the pastor believed his grandson was stealing from the church, so he told him he was no longer welcome on church property.

Police said Griffin does have a criminal history, but all of his previous charges were in the juvenile court system. According to the police report, Griffin was homeless.
