Look alive, ladies! Israel says the models rocking the runway and gracing magazine covers are just too skinny, so they’re banning them.
Modeling agencies can now only use 'healthy' looking models.
So what’s healthy?
A body mass index of 18.5. That means a 6-foot-tall model must weigh no less than 136 pounds.
According to studies, 2% of girls aged 14 to 18 in Israel have severe eating disorders.
In the U.S. – 40% of new anorexia cases are in 15 to 19-year-old girls.
So yay for Israel!
But here’s the problem.
To get work - they would have to provide a doctor’s note proving they’re not malnourished.
And even if they can’t get hired in Israel - there are plenty of other places that will let the girls on the catwalk.
When Madrid and Milan instituted their own bans - super skinny models were still welcome in London.
Still, you know things are bad when even fashion insiders are disturbed.
Seriously, since studies show that looking at thin models makes women feel bad, why do advertisers so seldom choose any other kind?
