    Springfield, MO--"Everything so far has been great." says Carmel Gutierrez who takes her two kids to the pool four to five times a week.  She went out of her way to make sure her kids didn't contaminate the pool water.  "We had the baby swim diapers on or at least I took them out of the pool every twenty minutes and say do you need to go to the bathroom and hope they didn't do it." says Gutierrez.

    ROLLA, Mo. - Jurors deciding if a man will live or die heard the impact his nine-year-old victim’s death had on her family, friends and small community. Chris Collings is one of two men charged with the rape and murder of Rowan Ford. During a separate trial scheduled for October her step-father, David Spears, is facing the same charges.

  5. Morrisville neighbors say they made a hotline call to report possible neglect before 4-year-old boy's throat was cut

    A four-year-old boy is fighting for his life inside a Springfield hospital. Detectives say his mother tried to cut his throat. Doninita Mitaru is charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action. According to court documents, Mitaru was previously hospitalized for mental healthissues. Neighbors say they wish something could have been done to prevent the young boy's injuries. “I can't get over thinking it happened to a four-year-old,” neighbor Erica Lamke said.

    Springfield police say a mother threatened to kill a 14-year-old girl on Facebookusing racial slurs. Officers say the woman's son had a child with the young girl. The teenager who is referred to only by her initials in court documents told officers she posted that Crystal Smith’s son did not call or visit their child on Christmas. After that post, police say Smith sent a lengthy, threatening message to the 14-year-old.

  11. Hundreds honor Staff Sgt. Tyler Smith who was killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom

    SUMMERSVILLE, Mo. - On Friday hundreds of people stood in silence along a stretch of nearly 70 miles of road to honor a fallen soldier from Licking. Staff Sgt. Tyler J. Smith, 24, of Licking, Mo., died April 3, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when he was attacked with an enemy improvised explosive device. Supporters held flags along the route as Smith's body was transported from Rolla to Summersville.

  13. Funeral date set for Russell 'Rusty' Porter in Springfield

    The family of Russell “Rusty” Porter are preparing for his funeral and visitation. On April 17, Porter and his wife, Rebecca Porter, disappeared from their Willard home. In July, a Taney County deputy discovered their bodies in a rural wooded area. Authorities have not released the cause of death. On October 1, a visitation will be held for Russell Porter at 11:00 at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Springfield. At 1:00 a funeral will follow. In August, Rebecca Porter’s family held a funeral service in Crane.
