  1. 6/13/2013-Turkey Trot

What's the problem in Turkey? I'll start the discussion with one word, one name, actually. Erdogan. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan suffers from the same malady all powerful people have. We can clearly see it in President Obama in his second term. Obama doesn't have it as bad as Erdogan because we don't live in a theocracy. You say Turkey's not a theocracy, that it's a democracy? Take a hard look.

  3. Cartoonist's message has meaning

I get a kick out of the Leader’s political cartoonist, Bert Ring. Not only does Ring have a wicked sense of humor, his artistic skills are top-notch. Ring’s caricatures of Burbank City Council members are hilarious (and accurate). The...

  7. They're creepy and they're kooky

It's all very familiar. The finger-snapping opening theme. A black-clad Morticia snipping the heads off flowers. Uncle Fester making a lightbulb glow by putting it in his mouth. Daughter Wednesday torturing her brother Pugsley on a rack.

  11. You're a good man, Charles Schulz

No comic strip was more in touch with American pop culture in the 20th century than "Peanuts," drawn and written by the late, towering and much-revered cartoonist Charles Schulz. That his daily strip, so filled with unflinching sarcasm and childish wiles, would be roasted on "Saturday Night Live," spoofed on "South Park" and emulated on "Arrested Development" is proof of the familiar warmth and emotional depth supplied by Charlie Brown and his gang.
