    Dozens of children are calling a hospital wing home after a fire damaged Springfield's largest homeless shelter. While the clean up continues, the families are taking temporary shelter at Cox North hospital and a local church. The Kitchen Inc. CEO says people living on portions of the first, third and fourth floors could move back in by the end of the week. For those living on the second floor, it could be several weeks to months before life is back to normal.

  9. Joplin Tornado Survivors React to Investigation of Firefighters Possible Looting

    Joplin police are investigating if three firefighters looted the night of the Joplin EF-5 tornado. On June 9, the Baxter Springs, Kansas Fire Department met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The fire department fired three employees for “the disregard of departmental policies and guidelines for conduct displayed during relief efforts in the aftermath of the May 22, 2011 tornado in Joplin,” Baxter Springs Mayor Jenifer Bingham wrote in an issued statement.
