    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The widow of a man from Macon who died when a tractor-<span>trailer</span> caused a chain reaction crash in Republic sued the driver of the big rig and his company.&nbsp; Mary Gresham's husband, <a href="http://www.greeningeaganhayes.com/fh/obituaries/obituary.cfm?o_id=2037637&amp;fh_id=14477" target="_blank">Corey</a>, was killed in the crash around 9 a.m. March 27.&nbsp; <a href="http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/stltoday/obituary.aspx?n=lawrence-coan-mike&amp;pid=163937676&amp;fhid=5885" target="_blank">Lawrence <span><span>Coan</span></span></a> of <span><span>Kimberling</span></span> City also died in the crash.&nbsp;

    WAYNESVILLE, Mo. -- Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped murder and rape charges against the stepfather of a 9-year-old girl who was killed in Barry County in November 2007.&nbsp;&nbsp; David Spears, who was married to the mother of Rowan Ford, instead pleaded guilty for endangering the welfare of a child and hindering prosecution.

  5. Voters will decide the future of the Springfield smoking ban in one week

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Springfield voters are one week away from deciding the future of smoking inside businesses and buildings inside the city limits. Voters will decide if they want to repeal the current smoking ban or maintain the ban with added amendments. A &ldquo;yes&rdquo; vote means the voter wants to repeal the smoking ban and go back to previous smoking regulations. A &ldquo;no&rdquo; vote means the voter wants the smoking ban to stay in place with the recent amendments.

  7. Possible amendments to Springfield's smoking ban could allow smoking inside certain businesses and clubs

    Springfield's smoking ban could change Monday night if city council members approve amendments to the Smokefree Air Act that passed last year. Possible amendments include exemptions for electronic cigarettes, smoking during theatrical performances, bingo halls and tobacco shops that existed before the ban took place. The owners of Just For Him are "cautiously optimistic" city council members will allow smoking once again inside tobacco shops. Members of a local American Legion Post say if amendments pass nothing changes for them.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

  11. Deputy Shoots Two Men Accused of Trying to Run Over Two Officers During High Speed Chase Near Rolla

    Three law enforcement agencies are investigating an officer involved shooting following a high speed chase near Rolla. The shooting sent two men to the hospital with gunshot wounds. According to a member of the Phelps County Sheriff's Department, the driver of the car was air lifted to a hospital in Columbia. The passenger went to a hospital in Rolla. He is expected to recover and be released to the custody of the Phelps County Sheriff&rsquo;s Department.

  15. Attorneys and Senator: It is Time to Make the Punishment Fit the Crime, Criminal Code Changes Possible

    Lawmakers could soon make changes to Missouri's criminal laws that one senator says are outdated. Missouri legislators have not updated the state&rsquo;s criminal code for more than 30 years. Mount Vernon Senator Jack Goodman is asking lawmakers to create a joint legislative committee to recommend the first comprehensive overhaul of the state criminal code. &ldquo;Certainly there are threats to public safety, technology has changed, there are new drugs and drugs that weren&rsquo;t prevalent or anticipated in the 1970&rsquo;s,&rdquo; Goodman said. He says legislators must take a look at new technologies like Facebook and how they can be used to facilitate a crime. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m hoping we are going to make some good progress this session,&rdquo; Goodman said.
