    Springfield police say a mother threatened to kill a 14-year-old girl on Facebookusing racial slurs. Officers say the woman's son had a child with the young girl. The teenager who is referred to only by her initials in court documents told officers she posted that Crystal Smith’s son did not call or visit their child on Christmas. After that post, police say Smith sent a lengthy, threatening message to the 14-year-old.

  23. Attorneys and Senator: It is Time to Make the Punishment Fit the Crime, Criminal Code Changes Possible

    Lawmakers could soon make changes to Missouri's criminal laws that one senator says are outdated. Missouri legislators have not updated the state&rsquo;s criminal code for more than 30 years. Mount Vernon Senator Jack Goodman is asking lawmakers to create a joint legislative committee to recommend the first comprehensive overhaul of the state criminal code. &ldquo;Certainly there are threats to public safety, technology has changed, there are new drugs and drugs that weren&rsquo;t prevalent or anticipated in the 1970&rsquo;s,&rdquo; Goodman said. He says legislators must take a look at new technologies like Facebook and how they can be used to facilitate a crime. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m hoping we are going to make some good progress this session,&rdquo; Goodman said.
