San Franciso Giants ace starter Tim Lincecum nicknamed "the Freak" narrowly edged the St. Louis duo of Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright for his 2nd straight National League Cy Young Award. Lincecum won just 15 games in 22 decisions with a 2.48 ERA (2nd to Carpenter, 2.24), but led the league with 261 strikeouts.
Tim Lincecum is the first pitcher to win consecutive Cy Young Awards since Randy Johnson won four straight with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1999-2002.
Lincecum picked up 11 of 32 first-place votes, 12 second-place votes and nine third-place votes for 100 points.
Chris Carpenter finished a close second with nine first-place votes and 94 points.
Adam Wainwright finished 3rd despite receiving the most first place votes (12), totalling 90 points.
