Lady Bears Get Sixth Commitment for 2008-09

By KSPR Sports

Morgan Harrington, a 5-7 point guard from Belleville (Ill.) East High School, has committed to join the Missouri State women’s basketball program for the 2008-09 season. Harrington becomes the sixth player to commit to Lady Bears’ head coach Nyla Milleson for the upcoming academic year, joining Lacey Boshe, Casey Garrison, Jasmine Malone, Jaleshia Roberson and Regan Soldner.
A four-time all-state honoree for Belleville East, Harrington wrapped up her high school career the ninth-leading scorer in school history, while ranking No. 2 on the Lady Lancers’ all-time assist list. A McDonald’s High School All-America nominee as a senior, Harrington was limited to just 14 games due to injury, yet still managed to average 14.4 points per contest, while leading the Southwestern Conference in free throw percentage (.923) and ranking second in the league in assists (4.1) to earn third-team all-state honors.
As a junior, Harrington tallied 11.5 points and 3.8 assists, earning first-team all-conference and honorable-mention all-state honors to help the Lady Lancers to a 27-4 record and state playoff appearance.
An excellent student in the classroom as well, Harrington carries a 3.99 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Morgan will be a great addition to our program,” Milleson commented. “She’s a true point guard, yet she has a great scorer’s mentality. She can really shoot the deep three and we feel like she can be a key contributor. She’s a really nice final piece to our freshman class.”
The Lady Bears will return two starters and seven letterwinners in 2008-09 after finishing 11-19 in 2007-08, Milleson’s first season as head coach.
