NIXA, Mo. -- The Hogan Prep Rams finished off their participation in the 2012 Nixa Invitational in fine style Saturday afternoon, as Hogan crushed the Harrisonville Wildcats 75-34 behind Broderick Newbill’s 28 points.
Hogan rebounded from an opening round loss to the Willard Tigers with two consecutive wins, as the Rams convincingly defeated St. Joseph Lafayette and Harrisonville en route to a 5thplace finish. Hogan set the trend for the game early on, as the Rams led 23-11 after one quarter behind the big play of Broderick Newbill and Maurice Mason. The second quarter was little better for Harrisonville, as the Rams outscored the Wildcats 22-15 to take a commanding 45-26 lead going into halftime. Broderick Newbill had what was arguably the best half of basketball for any player in the tournament, as he scored 25 first half points on the strength of his impressive inside game.
The third quarter was no better for the Harrisonville Wildcats, as Hogan dominated the entire quarter (outscoring Harrisonville 21-3) as the Rams held an almost insurmountable 66-29 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
The reserves for both teams played the majority of the fourth quarter, and Hogan Prep cruised to the 75-34 victory in the battle of Kansas City-area schools. Broderick Newbill scored 28 points to lead Hogan, yet he only scored 3 second half points after a 25 point first half performance. Guard Maurice Mason contributed 20 points on the strength of strong outside shooting to give the Rams two 20 point scorers.
For Harrisonville, big man Dallas Stackhouse scored 17 points and was the only Wildcat in double figures, as no other Harrisonville player scored more than 5 points.
