Hillcrest vs. Buffalo

Hillcrest vs. Buffalo (Greg French / January 30, 2012)

SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- The Hillcrest Lady Hornets dominated the Buffalo Lady Bison from the opening tip-off Monday night on the campus of Hillcrest High School, as Brittany Fisher led the Hornets to a dominating 59-19 win over the visitors from Dallas County.

The Hillcrest offense ran smoothly from the outset, as the Lady Hornets ran out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter of play.  Coach Jeni Hopkins’ squad played stifling defense all night, and did not allow the Buffalo offense to get anything going for an extended period of time.

Hillcrest added 20 more points in the second quarter and held Buffalo to 4 points in the quarter, as the Lady Hornets held a commanding 36-8 lead at halftime.  The Buffalo Lady Bison managed only 4 points in each of the first two quarters, as the strong inside presence presented by the taller Hillcrest defense prevented Buffalo from having an effective inside game.

The game remained firmly in Hillcrest’s control in the third quarter, and despite Buffalo putting their highest single-quarter total of eleven points on the board, Hillcrest added 17 more points to lead 53-19 going into the fourth quarter.

With the commanding 34 point lead, the Hillcrest Lady Hornets played a methodical yet intense final eight minutes of the contest, and Buffalo actually outscored the Lady Hornets 8-6 in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bison were able to get the ball into the paint for the first time all game.

Despite improved play from the Lady Bison, Hillcrest still easily secured the 59-19 victory.  Brittney Fisher scored 15 points in leading Hillcrest to the victory, while Morgan Henderson and Jordan Shoemaker each scored 5 for Buffalo.

Hillcrest has a tough Ozark Conference matchup on Thursday, as they face the Waynesville Tigers at home.
