OZARK, Mo. -- The Ozark Lady Tigers (15-4) had little problem defeating the depleted Logan-Rogersville (6-11) Lady Wildcats 55-24 on Monday night. Ozark, coming off wins over Blue Springs and St. Joseph's Benton this past weekend, was hoping there would be no let down on Monday.
Before the game began, Rogersville Coach Keith Spaulding scratched 8 girls from his lineup due to injuries and sickness. "It's hard to play when you are missing so many players," said Spaulding.
"Rogersville is a little beaten up right now; going into the season we didn’t think it would have been a game like this tonight," said Coach Yancey Little. "It was good to get a game where we could concentrate on our defense, we don’t get too many of those." Ozark was able to play several different players in different spots and rest some of their starters. When asked if it is tough to coach in a game like this, Little said, "No, because there's so many things that we can get better at."
Ozark continued with their balanced scoring, which is something they have done in the last few games, with 10 players in the scoring column. Coach Little said that "it is good to have balanced scoring because so many teams depend on just one person to score. If that person isn’t scoring, some teams are going to struggle. We’ve been balanced in our scoring all year long."
Rogersville had several open looks in the first half that did not fall, making the half time score 27-8. In the second half, Ozark turned up the defensive pressure which caused the Lady Wildcats to turn the ball over several times. Little said, "We need to keep working on defense and I think we ran our fast break well tonight. We also took two defensive charges, which is rare for us since we have only taken three charges all season."
Leading Rogersville in scoring was Senior Callie Smith with 11. Ozark was led by Jackie Fugate with 11.
