May 2 Athlete of the Week: Jacob Fair
MONETT, MO - Golf is the ultimate mental game.  Shot after shot, it's just you against the course.

"This game is 70-80% between your ears," said Monett senior Jacob Fair.

The mental side shouldn't be too tough for Fair.  In addition to being one of the top golfers in the area, he's also his school's valedictorian.  He takes the title of student athlete seriously.

"I take great pride in my golf game and how I play and conduct myself, as well as I take pride in my studies in the classroom."

Athlete, student, and coach?

"I call him coach Fair," said Monett coach Derrick Uhl.

The senior is the total package.

"For me being a first time golf coach, he's been huge.  I lean on him heavily.  I'm going to miss him."

While he may be leaving Monett after this season, Fair won't be far away, as he has signed to play at Mizzou.

"It has everything that I want.  It's right here in my home state.  I can stay close to home and represent the home state well.  So that's what I plan on doing."

Whether in the classroom or on the course, Fair has shown a desire to be great.

"He's a special golfer and a special kid too."

And for that he's this week's Arby's High School Athlete of the Week.
