O-Zone Kickoff Week: Hollister looking to bounce back from winless 2011

HOLLISTER, MO - The season couldn’t have been worse for Hollister in 2011, the Tigers didn’t win a game.  Now Hollister looks to better team speed and talented skill players to help start a turn around.

HEAD COACH: Kevin Roepke, 5th season

2011 RECORD: (0-10)

RETURNING STARTERS: 6 Offense, 6 Defense

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Zane Cutting (Sr. RB), Kaleb Shultz (Sr. WR), Chris Maric (Sr. WR)

The Tigers had a difficult 2011, Head Coach Kevin Roepke credits a lack of mental toughness for Hollister’s struggles.

“Last year we had some bad breaks and it got us down and we just never could fight through it,” said Roepke.

Roepke has been pleased with his team’s commitment to improve in the off season.

“I think we worked harder in the weight room,” said Roepke.  “I think they’re starting to see the big picture that they’re going to have to put in the work to have success on the field.”

The Tigers have 8 seniors including running back Zane Cutting, wide receivers Kaleb Shultz and Chris Maric.

“I think we’ve got 3 or 4 playmakers on offense who can take a 10 yard pass and turn it into 80,” said Roepke. “Instead of featuring just one running back, I think we have 3 or 4.”

Coach Roepke has been impressed with his team speed.

“I think we’re more athletic overall than we’ve been in the past.”

Hollister opens the season August 24th hosting Strafford.
