KSPR Girls Basketball Power Rankings - Week 8

(Teams are ranked by the KSPR Sports Department based on their relative strength to class size.  Overall dominance, strength of schedule, quality wins, and momentum are factors in determining the order.  Stats and details are based on information submitted by coaches.  Feel free to email comments to mscott@kspr.com)

(Last week in parenthesis)

1.     Glendale (1) – The Lady Falcon train keeps on chugging to the playoffs (excuse me, Thomas the Tank Engine is burned into my brain by my 2-year-old).  Coach Temple’s deep and only getting deeper veteran team picked up huge wins over West Plains and Republic, then after dispatching Camdenton, they capped the week with an 18 point rivalry win over Kickapoo.

2.     Seymour (3) – The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten, but more importantly proved they can beat the best.  Coach Frank’s squad went on the road to beat class 2 top ranked Sparta 67-50.  No let down after the big win, including a 65-8 win over Mansfield (not a typo) and a 64-26 win over Spokane.

3.     Ozark (2) – The Lady Tigers ran their winning streak to 11 last week with big wins over Rogersville and Webb City, before narrowly escaping a home meeting with Branson 37-36.  3 more regular season games, including Monday’s rivalry showdown at Nixa.

4.     Walnut Grove (4) – Once again the Lady Tigers don’t just win, they win by a ton.  Coach Henry’s girls beat Dadeville by 28, Halfway by 31, and Miller by 55.  The rest of the regular season features several major tests including the Seymour Tournament and home games with Fair Play and Pleasant Hope.

5.     Eminence (7) – The Lady Redwings stayed with their winning ways, beating last year’s class 2 state runner-up Couch by 30, Bakersfield by 47 and MV-BT/Liberty by 24.

6.     Sparta (5) – The Lady Trojans took an early week loss to Seymour (no shame there), before dominating Blue Eye 61-42.

7.     West Plains (6) – The Lady Zizzers fought hard, but ultimately fell to Glendale 43-35.  They bounced back by beating Rolla by 27 and Lebanon by 26.  They have a great shot at winning their district, but it will be interesting to see how they fare against the big dogs deep in the playoffs.

8.     Purdy (9) – The Lady Eagles dominated Verona 66-32 led by Addy Roller’s long range shooting.  The Wayne State signee hit 7 3-pointers and is now just single digits from the states all-time career record.  Coach Young’s girls closed the week with a solid 56-49 win over Southwest.

9.     Nixa (11) – The Lady Eagles are back up a couple spots after double digit wins over Skyline, Neosho, and Carthage.  The last 3 regular season games will be a challenge; at Republic, hosting Ozark, and at Webb City.

10.     Skyline (12) – The Lady Tigers picked up a big road win over Fair Grove 64-60 led by Hannah Wisdom’s 26 points, then knocked off a solid Marionville group 49-44.  The big question is where does Skyline stack up in the class 3 playoffs?

11.     Republic (8) – Not a week to write home about for the Lady Tigers; falling 53-40 in a Wednesday night battle with Glendale.  Just 1 night later they fall 55-46 at Carthage.  Coach Flood’s girls closed the week strong however with comfortable wins over Neosho and Waynesville.  Republic has played one of the toughest class 4 schedules in the state.  That should benefit them at playoff time.

12.     Weaubleau (10) – The Lady Tigers blasted Humansville before falling at Montrose.  No shame in the latter game however as Montrose is undefeated and ranked 2nd in class 1.  A couple big games await down the stretch, including a trip to Walnut Grove and hosting Fair Play to close the regular season.

13.     Clever (NR) – The Lady Jays are back in the top 15 again after big wins over Galena and Fordland.

14.     Stockton (NR) – The Lady Tigers are also back in the top 15 after a nice 18 point win over Marionville and a 61-50 win over Mid Lakes Conference rival Ash Grove.

15.     Fordland (13) – After wins over Conway and Hartville the Lady Eagles took their lumps in a 58-32 setback at Clever.  Fordland is also in the highly competitive Seymour Tournament Feb. 13-18.

Dropped out: Catholic, Ash Grove

Knocking on the door: Kickapoo, Bolivar, Ava, Southwest, Mt Vernon, Fair Play, Liberal, Marionville, Crane, Branson, Carthage
