KSPR Girls Basketball Power Rankings - Week 6

(Teams are ranked by the KSPR Sports Department based on their relative strength to class size.  Overall dominance, strength of schedule, quality wins, and momentum are factors in determining the order.  Stats and details are based on information submitted by coaches.  Feel free to email comments to mscott@kspr.com)

(Last week in parenthesis)

1.     Glendale (2) – The Lady Falcons are back on top with dominating wins over Willard and Nerinx Hall.  Our rating does not however meet with the MBCA rankings that have Glendale surprisingly out of the top 10 in class 5.  Why?  They’ve only lost a close early season game to Nixa and 2 games to out of state teams.

2.     Ozark (6) – It was a huge statement week for the Lady Tigers!  After a 33 point win over Parkview they swept through the inaugural Queens of the Court Showcase with wins over William Chrisman, Republic (3rd time this season), and rival Nixa 47-41 in the championship game.

3.     Walnut Grove (3) – The Lady Tigers stay put this week after a 12 point win over Crane.  Sophomore Heather Harman continues to make a name for all-state honors with 22 points in the victory.

4.     Seymour (5) – The Lady Tigers improved to 16-0 with a 60-31 win over Conway; Massengale, Lansdown, and Helms with double digit efforts.  A huge Summit Conference matchup Monday night awaits, hosting 13-2 Fordland.

5.     West Plains (1) – The Lady Zizzers took their first Ozark Conference loss Monday with a 57-55 setback at Kickapoo.  They did end the week strong however with a 16 point win over Marshfield.  The model of consistency Andi Haney had a pair of 20+ point performances.

6.     Republic (4) – The Lady Tigers opened the week with a 33 point win over Marshfield.  Next up came a decisive 30 point thumping of Webb City in the Queens of the Court Showcase opener.  The weekend would not be as kind as they dropped back to back games to class 5 opponents Ozark and Kickapoo to finish 4th.

7.     Eminence (8) – Win, win, win; the Lady RedWings keep it rolling with wins over Koshkonong, Thayer in OT, and Willow Springs.  Kelsey Williams continues to make a name for herself around the state.

8.     Sparta (13) – The Lady Trojans are really heating up!  After a 68 point win over New Covenant coach Songer’s girls knocked off Forsyth by 15 led by freshman phenom Cailyn Long’s 38 points.  Friday night, the class 2 power clipped Reeds Spring 48-43 for a championship at the Galena Lady Bear Invitational.

9.     Fordland (10) – The Lady Eagles knocked off Crane 66-52 in their only game.  As mentioned above, a big game awaits Monday night at undefeated Seymour.

10.     Purdy (7) – The defending state champs blasted Miller early in the week before falling by 5 to suddenly resurgent Catholic (Bekah Bade back from injury) in the Stockton Tournament.  Saturday night, the Lady Eagles knocked off Dadeville led by a history making effort from Wayne State bound senior Addy Roller who scored her 2,000th career point.  Roller finished the night with 33 points.

11.     Weaubleau (11) – The Lady Tigers picked up a pair of double digit wins over Osceola and Greenwood.

12.     Nixa (9) – The Lady Eagles had a solid weekend at the Queens of the Court Showcase with wins over Central and Kickapoo before falling in a tightly contested championship to Christian County rival Ozark 47-41.  I was particularly impressed with the play of freshman Toshua Leavitt.

13.     Ash Grove (14) – The Lady Pirates seem to be finding their way.  They opened the Marionville Tournament with a 57 point win over Monett, followed by a 13 point win over a solid Pleasant Hope squad, before beating Marionville 63-53 in the championship.

14.     Clever (15) – The Lady Jays keep on winning with double digit victories over Blue Eye and Spokane.

15.     Stockton (NR)Skyline did nothing to drop out of the top 15, but Stockton simply bullied its way back in.  The Lady Tigers crushed Lamar by 30, knocked off Dadeville by 15, then took care of Central 64-57 for the championship led by senior Garrett Burton’s 28 points.

Dropped out: Skyline

Knocking on the door: Kickapoo, Catholic, Fair Play, Ava, Bolivar, Liberal, Thayer, Mt Vernon, Crane, Branson, Rolla
