You may not know it, but nestled right here in the Ozarks are two of the greatest wrestlers in Missouri high school history. Not only are they on the same team, and class, they're almost the same weight. Monett's Kellen Bonous and Kyle Meyer are this weeks Wendy's High School Athletes of the Week.
Two wrestlers, so similar in success, so different in approach. Monett head coach Darryl Bradley said, "Kellen, he's in your face, wants to break your arm off. Kyle, more of a mover, methodical, likes to think. They're going to get it done no matter what. That's what makes them so successful."
Kellen, 2-time state champ, 142 and 2 career record, committed to wrestle for national power Mizzou.
Kyle, 3-time state champ, school record 143 and 2 career record, committed to wrestle for national power Stanford. No rivalry here, just 2 young men fighting for one common goal.
Kellen Bonous said, "it doesn't matter to me as long as we're winning. My name is in the record book and up on that wall, plus I've got a state championship ring so i feel pretty good."
Kyle Meyer said, "we've all been together so long, our hard works all been toward senior year to see what we can do."
Bradley added, "they're just team guys. It shows on the football field, mats, and life. They care about other people as well as help this team succeed."
1 team championship, 5 individual titles, 285 wins, and model scholar athletes. Kyle Meyer and Kellen Bonous, this weeks Wendy's High School Athletes of the Week.
