Drury Finishes Third In GLVC All-Sports, Commissioner's Cup

Drury University's athletics squads have combined to finish third in both the 14-team Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports and Commissioner's Cup competitions for the 2007-08 year, the league announced Thursday.
The DU teams amassed 125.0 points to finish behind only SIU Edwardsville (136.0) and Northern Kentucky (133.5) in the All-Sports competition, in which points are allocated based upon on overall finish in the league's standings or the respective sport's league championship tournament for the 17 GLVC-sponsored sports.
SIUE had five team championships and eight top-three finishes overall, including a sweep of the GLVC men's and women's indoor track and field and men's and women's outdoor track and field titles.
Drury had five league championships for 2007-08, those coming in women's soccer, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's tennis.
Northern Kentucky won the Commissioner's Cup for the top finish, for a league-best fourth time, in the GLVC's seven "core" sports - men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball.
The Norse, on the strength of their recent baseball title and second-place finishes in women's basketball and men's soccer, finished with 76.5 points, edging out SIUE (74.0). Drury was third with 66.0, followed by Lewis (65.5) and Indianapolis (61.5) to round out the top five.
