Pictures: Collapsed mine shaft threatens two homes in east Springfield
A pair of Springfield homes are in jeopardy after a large hole opened up on Wednesday. City officials believe it is a an old mine shaft that is likely over 100 years old. The property owners say they had no idea the shaft was there, and worry that their insurance won't pay to repair the damage to their homes.
