The typical farmer does not spend his Monday night rehearsing for the local community theatre production but in Marshfield, Missouri that appears to be the case.
The Marshfield Performing Arts Society will be putting on the beloved musical “Hello Dolly” both this weekend and next weekend at Marshfield high school. While a few of the actors are professionals, many of them are community members with titles such as: insurance salesman.
Director and choreographer Patrick Schuster says that the community members love to get involved and are very supportive of each other. “They have such a great attitude,” says Schuster, adding that about 25 percent of the actors and stagehands are not experienced. With a cast of 40, ranging in ages from five to sixty-eight, Schuster says they try to highlight each individual’s talents by including everyone who wants to be involved.
The Marshfield Performing Arts Society began about five years ago and has put on about one or two productions a year since then, including “The Sound of Music” and “Music Man.” The society tries to incorporate both a play and a musical into each season. This fall they will be performing a musical tribute to the last five years of performances in their hometown.
Performances are June 20, 21, 28, and 29th. Saturday’s performances begin at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday’s are matinees and begin at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and both student and senior discounts are available. For more information and to purchase tickets call the Marshfield library at (417) 619-3433.
