According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the trooper was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 63 and State Route H to check on a vehicle parked on the side of the road.

The trooper proceded to arrest an occupant in the vehicle who was wanted on several felony and misdemeanor warrants. In the process of the arrest, the suspect assaulted the trooper and obtained his service weapon. The suspect then fled and was later found near Gardner Ford Bridge in Texas County. The 21-year-old suspect is currently benig held in the Texas County Sheriff's Department but has not yet been charged.
