A sniper-like shooting kills an Ozarks man as he was sitting inside his mobile home. Now the Texas County sheriff's department is trying to piece together the puzzle for an unusual rural crime.
Crime and the town of Tyrone don't appear to mix until last week.
Texas County Sheriff Carl Watson says, “The neighbor went to check on him and found the body.” Forty-two-year-old Ricky Luebbert was shot to death through his trailer window by someone standing about 130 yards away. Sheriff Watson says, “The shots were fired near the highway or across the highway a short distance. The sheriff says a sniper-like shooting in a sleepy town makes the investigation a little more difficult. Watson says, “Of course we'll have no fingerprints but we do have some information we're going on.”
Locals tell KSPR Tyrone is the kind of town that if you blink, you'll miss it. All of the businesses have closed down and almost everyone who lives here is related. No one would talk to KSPR on camera but say everyone wants to know who would do this.
Sheriff Watson says, “I wouldn’t say enemies. He did have some people he had problems with but I know will solve it.” The town and the two young sons Luebbert left behind will know more when people start talking and the evidence comes back from the crime lab.
The sheriff says Texas County has seen a spike in homicides since January 2006 which he says is rare for the county.

sounds like the woman who got this going has dropped out..........well, it was a pretty stupid statement when live in a town like st louis..........all you have to do is drive through that town to recognize the crime problems......................

I suspect the texas county sheriff would like to know, and i would like to know which murders "took years to solve"?.......murders are rare here anyway......and off hand I dont remember any unsolved murders. or any that took years to solve......

I think one of the ratings is for the "most dangerous city" and crimes in addition to shootings go into that ranking........rapes, assaults, etc.....I know st louis has made the top of that list...thank you........

you dont have to go to all that trouble...just google "murder rate in U.S. by city".....and unless you are slow you will see the answer......

here is a suggestion, ask KSPR to tell you what the murder capital are.........and we will see if st louis is in the top ten by their information.

I live in St.Louis....and there it is no murder capital...and has never been so far as I know.. From what I have discovered...we were getting from the crime digest...every shooting from around here, even Illinois across the river.

talk about creepy places,up until mid summer 2007, St Louis was the murder capital of the country-thats when Detroit took over 1st place..both cities have traded for this dubious honor before....I would feel safer in Iraq..........

I grew up, about 20 miles away..in the huge town of Cabool. This is truly a beautiful place, but, it is too creepy....this is a murder that may not be solved. I have known some that happened in Texas county that took years to solve.
