KSPR caught up with one local woman who's just now getting a home thanks to some caring KSPR viewers. KSPR first introduced you to Kat Bowers in March when flooding wiped out her home along with most of Hootentown. Her story touched one of our viewer's hearts. That viewer found many other strangers willing to lend a hand and get bowers a home.
Kat bowers lost everything in the flood. She didn’t have flood insurance. Bowers and her foster children were left with the clothes on their backs. Bowers says, "You wonder why they helped but we are so grateful. We thought we were on our own. This has been a miracle straight out of the sky." What fell from the sky forced Bowers and dozens of others Ozarkers out of their homes this spring. Her foster son Chancer Walton says, “We worked so hard to build that house up. I guess Mother Nature wanted us to live here.”
The Kettles family is trying to give back what Mother Nature took away. Rick and Tiffany Kettels own Lakeside Resort in Branson West. They just happened to have a mobile home they didn't need. They put an ad on Craigslist saying it they would give it away for free. Rick Kettels says, "We had literally hundreds of phone calls but when we were called about Kat we knew we wanted it to go to someone who deserved it."
A woman in Springfield who saw our news reports read the Craigslist ad. She called KSPR. Then Freedom Homes of Springfield stepped in. They brought in Ted Moore and his workers to move the mobile home from Branson West to Hootentown. Ted Moore says, "My guys are good people willing to give up their weekend."
For nine hours a handful worked to tear down and set this mobile home back up. Now Bowers and her foster children have a place to call home. Bowers says, "This has changed me I haven’t been to church since my husband died and we're going tomorrow. I'm going to make sure I'm deserving of what the lord gives us."
Bowers still needs help getting her sewer system and water pipelines up to code. She’s also still without her household belongings.
KSPR would like to thank all of the businesses involved. Including Kool Off Boats Inc. The owner stopped by when he found out what the workers were doing. He donated bottles of water.
