The village leader and pastor arrested in a sex sting called the detective responsible for his arrest, begging for mercy. Former Collins Board of Trustees Chairman Allen Kauffman faces four counts of enticing a child.

Diamond Police Detective Jim Murray says that he received a call about 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Murray says even though the call showed up as anonymous on his caller I.D., he recognized the voice and asked who was calling. Murray says the caller was Allen Kauffman. He says Kauffman asked him not to do anything with the hard drive officers took from his computer. Murray says, “This is a first and it just dumbfounds me. I just couldn't believe he'd do this because he has an attorney." Murray has written a report of the conversation and sent it to the Newton County prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor will decide if the phone call will be considered tampering with evidence.

Kauffman is out of jail on 50-thousand dollar bond. He'll be in court next month.

DIAMOND, Mo. (AP) -

Kauffman confirmed the phone call to The Associated Press but denied he was asking the detective to destroy evidence. Kauffman said he has resigned as mayor of Collins and pastor of Temple Lot Church there.

To the person who loves Kauffman.Yes we all sin and the bible says you have to forgive, but you do not invite them in. This man said all of this stuff THINKING he was going to be with a 13 year baby. I am just so glad he was caught and I hope they throw away the key. He has been around other young girl where he lives and that scares the .... out of me. And to his family and the people who love him, he did this to you not the TV or paper or public so put blame where it belongs.

There seems to be a pattern for people who get caught attempting the unspeakable this way. On one of those news programs a few months ago they set up the same kind of evil perverts and had a camera waiting for each when he came to the place where he thought he would find a young girl alone. They would cower and blubber and claim it was a "sickness" they couldn't help and, of course, BEG FOR MERCY. Some already had their pants down. There are some things God never intended for man to pardon.

In response to one of the remarks left, this man needs to be haunted. He needs to be reminded what he did everyday so he doesnt do it again. Its easy to forgive people for what they did but the victims never forget and its scars them for life so why shouldnt he have the same mental scars. anyone who thinks its ok to do this even one time to a child needs mental help. its an illness besides how do we know it wasnt done before and he never got caught. It was said before we must protect our children

I agree that this man should be charged and sent to jail just like other sex offenders. We just need to keep in mind that he is still a human that makes mistakes. He does sound sorry for what he has done, I only hope in his heart he means it. I also hope that he doesn't do anything drastic (suicide) because of all the press surrounding him and his situation. I wish we could leave him alone and let him and the courts decide what to do next.

First of all My heart goes out for the girl and her family and the preditors family. I can image what the town is putting them threw. Second of all he should be treated as any other preditor and should not get off easy. If he was sick enough to do that to one girl how many others has he done it to and not been caught. I think that people like him need mental help along with being locked up. I hope he gets what he deserves. as for the police for catching him the way they did,Keep up the good work

We should no longer allow anyone of power to get off easy for crimes......there is too much of this. He needs to go sit in farmington correctional center with the child molestors in 28 house and then lock him up in the preditor unit once he is done with his time.Same thing for false accusers who falsly accuse someone of a sex crime. I did 30 months there because camden county was to lazy to take into consideration she lied...now I have to register every 90 days because she lied! life ruiner!
