Collins Leader Resigns

By Brad Belote

Allen Kauffman, the chairman of the village board of trustees in Collins, turned in his resignation Tuesday. Kauffman was arrested and charged with attempting to entice a child in a chatroom on the Internet.

City Clerk Pam Myers said Kauffman submitted his resignation even though no one on the board asked for it.

Prosecutors say Kauffman approached what he believed was a 13-year-old girl in an Internet chat room in November. In subsequent chats, prosecutors say Kauffman wrote about having sex with the girl.

The girl turned out to be a police officer in Diamond, Mo., posing a child.

I personally know this man. I would never in a million years think he would do something like this. You think you know people when actually those are the ones who are sick minded. I hope he goes away for along time for what he did.
